A therapist\, and storyteller\, as well as a poet\, she was selected as Clark County Poet Laureate in 2024. She completed her MFA in Poetry at Pacific University in June 2025. Committed to bringing poetry into the community and the community into poetry\, Susan offers writing workshops and programs involving marginalized communities\, including LGBTQ+ youth\, recovering people\, and others. She is awed by this vast and inspiring landscape of the Pacific Northwest\, and is grateful for the opportunity to share the experience at Plas Newydd Farm. \n This workshop is a part of our 2026 Writers’ Series! \n Thanks to the generous support of our writing community and Humanities Washington\, workshops in this series are free of charge for all participants. We will practice mindfulness\, learn how to notice features of the environment\, consider our impact on the land.  How does development exploit the land? How can we be a friend to the land.  We will also read excerpts from works of eco-journalism and eco-poetry.Light breakfast\, coffee\, tea and water will be provided. Please bring a notebook and pen\, a sack lunch\, water bottle and appropriate shoes and clothes to be out in the weather. Please note: If you have accessibility needs\, please reach out and we will work to accommodate you. While we strive to make our workshops accessible to all\, we are located in a historical home that does not have accessible restrooms at this point; our lowest entrance has two steps to enter. As Clark County Poet Laureate (2024-2026) Susan Dingle encourages emerging\, established and future poets to discover and share their voices in workshops and events throughout Clark County. She received an MA in Creative Writing from the University of Illinois/Chicago\, an MSW from SUNY Stony Brook and a Certificate in Congregational Leadership from Dubuque Theological Seminary. Susan is currently completing an MFA in Poetry at Pacific University. She has been writing\, publishing and performing poetry since the ‘70s. Hosted by Abby Braithwaite and David Morgan (and some surprise guests)\, these adventures give us the chance to explore some of the most beautiful places on the farm\, and provide a deeper opportunity to feel the rhythms of the land\, observe the comings and goings of migratory birds\, watch the bud and bloom of native and invasive plants\, swat mosquitoes\, and dodge raindrops! Part nature journaling\, part phenological record-keeping\, these explorations are a great way to spend more time out on the land than some of our workshops allow. Bring your journal\, your sketchbook\, your camera and your senses. Suggested Donation of $10 collected on the farm. It’s going to be a little bit of sculpture\, a little bit of alchemy\, a little bit of geekery and a whole lot of magic—and we can’t wait to have you join us!This two-day workshop will be limited to 8 participants\, so sign up early to ensure your spot!Dreamed up over the wood lathe with sculptor Lila Ferber last February\, the Festival of Pen and Ink is for anyone who wants to get their hands in on the crafting of writing and drawing tools. In addition to Lila with her 4 traveling wood lathes\, we will be welcoming Molly Holmlund of Foraged Ink (she’s amazing\, trust me! I drove over to White Salmon last spring to take a workshop with her\, and it was lovely)\, and an as-yet unnamed but super cool book artist. Participants  will work in cohorts of four (don’t worry\, we’ll mix up our groups) and will leave the weekend with: 2  pens hand-crafted on the wood lathe\, made from fallen oak and elm harvested here on Plas Newydd FarmInk made from materials gathered on the farmA hand-bound journalA collection of short writings or quick sketches generated from prompts offered throughout the weekend. If you need a scholarship for this workshop\, please get in touch by email and we will do our best to accommodate you!Speaking of accommodations\, we have limited housing available on a first come\, first served basis.
